Real Madrid have released a formal statement categorically denying any interest or negotiations regarding a transfer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Spanish giants took the unusual step of addressing the speculation directly on their official website, refuting recent reports that suggested the club was in talks to sign the Argentine World Cup winner this summer.
Official Denial from Real Madrid
In a statement published on the club's website, Real Madrid declared: "In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation."
The statement continued: "Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship."
Respect for Chelsea and Institutional Loyalty
Real Madrid emphasized the importance of institutional loyalty, stating: "Precisely because of the respect that an entity like Chelsea FC deserves and because of the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny speculations that are unfounded and do not correspond to reality."
The club also expressed regret over the spread of false information, adding: "Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved."
Background on Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez, 25, joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a British record transfer fee of £106.8 million. The midfielder has since made over 100 appearances for the Blues, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists. He was a key member of Argentina's 2022 World Cup-winning squad, earning the FIFA Young Player Award for the tournament.
Despite his mixed form at Chelsea, Fernandez has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid reportedly among the suitors. However, the club's latest statement puts an end to those rumors, at least for now.
