Marcus Rashford has made it clear he will not deal with his club future until the World Cup concludes. The Manchester United forward, currently on loan at Barcelona last season, has returned to Old Trafford after the Catalan club declined a permanent transfer.
Rashford Prioritizes England Duty
Speaking ahead of England's round of 16 clash against Mexico, Rashford said: "As a person, I live in the moment. I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup. I wanted it done before, and if not, then I won't deal with it until after that. I want to fully be present in this moment. At the same time we're fighting for something. I don't have energy to be putting into other things."
The 28-year-old has been a key figure for England under Thomas Tuchel in the USA and is expected to feature prominently in the knockout stages.
Barcelona's Decision and United's Stance
Barcelona opted not to exercise a £26 million purchase option for Rashford, instead signing England teammate Anthony Gordon for £69.3 million. Rashford contributed 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances for Barcelona, helping them win La Liga. Despite this, the Spanish club is reportedly interested in a loan deal, but Manchester United prefers a permanent sale and is unwilling to loan him again.
Rashford still has a contract at Old Trafford until summer 2028. He has been linked with Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea, but a permanent move to Barcelona remains his preferred option. The Catalans have not given up hope but are understood to want another loan.
United's Contingency Plans
Manchester United is making contingency plans in case Rashford does not find a new club and remains at Old Trafford. They are reportedly targeting West Ham's Crysencio Summerville, valued at £50 million, as a new left winger. Rashford is expected to report for United pre-season three weeks after England's World Cup campaign ends.
