Rangers midfielder Thelo Aasgaard has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A side Atalanta, according to a report from Corriere Della Sera. The 24-year-old, who joined Rangers from Luton Town for £3.5 million last summer, has impressed at the World Cup with Norway, scoring in a 3-2 group stage defeat to France.
Aasgaard's World Cup Impact
Aasgaard's goal against France made him the first Rangers player to score at a World Cup since Brian Laudrup achieved the feat for Denmark in 1998. Norway had already secured their place in the last 32 before that match. The midfielder is currently on international duty and will face Ivory Coast for a spot in the knockout stages.
Atalanta's Interest
Corriere Della Sera reports that Aasgaard is highly regarded by new Atalanta head coach Maurizio Sarri, who took over from Raffaele Palladino after leaving Lazio. The Italian club, winners of the 2024 Europa League, are expected to intensify their pursuit of the Scouse-born player after the World Cup.
In addition to Aasgaard, Atalanta have also been linked with Rangers playmaker Nico Raskin. Reports in Italy claim that talks have already opened between the Serie A side and Rangers over a potential deal for the Belgium international. Raskin featured in all three of Belgium's group stage matches at the World Cup and will be keen to play in their last 16 clash against Senegal.
