Newcastle Complete £43m Signing of Hoffenheim Winger Bazoumana Touré
Newcastle Sign Bazoumana Touré for £43m from Hoffenheim

Newcastle United have completed the £43m signing of Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim, with the 20-year-old Côte d'Ivoire international winger set to replace Anthony Gordon following the England winger's departure to Barcelona in May. Touré becomes Eddie Howe's second summer acquisition after goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, who joined from Reims and is expected to start the season as the club's second-choice keeper.

Touré's Ambition and Background

Touré, who impressed in the Bundesliga last season and featured in three of Côte d'Ivoire's four matches at the World Cup finals, has been nicknamed "the Smiling Tornado". He expressed his excitement about joining Newcastle, stating: "I'm very, very happy to be here. It was my dream since I was young to play in the Premier League for a big team like Newcastle. I will give my best every single day for this shirt. I'm very excited and can't wait to meet my new teammates … and I'm also very excited to play at St James' Park for the first time."

Manager's View and Transfer Plans

Howe commented on Touré's potential: "We feel Bazoumana is a player with a really high ceiling. He's somebody who we believe can offer us something different. He's also got a lot of potential to unlock." The Newcastle manager remains active in the transfer market, seeking a central midfield replacement for Sandro Tonali, who is set to join Tottenham for £100m, and a new first-choice goalkeeper. Manchester City's James Trafford is a top target for the goalkeeping position, while Freiburg's Johan Manzambi is a midfield target, though Howe acknowledges strong competition for his signature. Newcastle are also determined to retain Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães amid growing interest from Arsenal.
