Newcastle United have given the green light to Odysseas Vlachodimos to quit the club this summer - despite already offloading three goalkeepers.
The Greek international signed in a £20m deal two years ago in a deal that Newcastle were pushed into as they escaped PSR sanctions at the 11th hour.
As Eddie Howe reluctantly said goodbye to Elliot Anderson in a £35m deal, Newcastle had to sign Vlachodimos to balance the books and avoid a points deduction.
But his style has not really blended in at Newcastle, and after just one solitary appearance in his first season against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup, he was sent on loan to Sevilla in La Liga last term.
The ex-Benfica star said in March: "The truth is, I still have a contract with Newcastle and they decide. I don't know what will happen in the future. I really don't think I can answer these questions.
"I truly don't know what's going to happen this summer. I don't know what their plans will be when the season ends. We'll see what happens then.
"I think it's clear that I enjoy playing every match with this team. I'll try to give my best every day, and that makes me feel very happy . . . but for me, the most important thing from day one is that this experience has been a gift."
Vlachodimos played 33 matches and Newcastle at least recouped a £4.3m loan fee for his services but Sevilla are yet to make the move permanent despite getting first option to buy.
The 32-year-old may return to Newcastle and play some part in pre-season after John Ruddy, Max Thompson and Aaron Ramsdale, who went back to Southampton on loan, all left the club this month, but a cut-price sale has been sanctioned at Benton.
Vlachodimos has been told he has no future despite having a couple of years left on his contract as Newcastle look to sign another senior shot-stopper on a list topped by Man City's James Trafford.
Clarity is high on the agenda of Howe, who asked for deals to be done early when the season was finished and Chronicle Live understands that request has been accepted by PIF.
With French youngster Ewen Jaouen already through the door at £18.5m, Howe would love to see a deal for Victor Munoz of Osasuna completed before adding a star like Trafford.
