Vitalii Mykolenko Signs New Everton Deal, Aims for Trophies
Mykolenko Signs New Everton Contract, Targets Trophies

Vitalii Mykolenko has signed a new three-year contract with Everton, extending his stay at Goodison Park until 2029. The 27-year-old left-back, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, has committed his future to the club after Everton opted to negotiate fresh terms rather than trigger a one-year extension.

Mykolenko's Ambition at Everton

Speaking about his new deal, Mykolenko expressed excitement and pride. He recalled the warm welcome from captain Seamus Coleman when he first joined in 2022, saying: "I remember reading it and thanking him for welcoming me. He gave me that confidence immediately that I'm in a proper family here."

The Ukraine international reflected on the club's struggles in recent years but noted the team's resilience: "In the first few years of my time here we were struggling, but our team, as a family – every person in the building gave everything to get through it. What we have now is stronger and we are getting better every season."

Mykolenko has been a regular under successive managers, making 143 Premier League appearances since his £20m move from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2022. Manager David Moyes had hinted a deal was close in the final weeks of the campaign.

Future Aspirations

With his future secured, Mykolenko outlined his goals for the club: "Since the manager came in, I think we are building up. He's a very good person, which is important for me and, as a manager, he gave me freedom on the pitch." He added: "Next season, we want to finish much higher. I like to have realistic dreams... winning a trophy or maybe a European trophy, as some other teams have done in the past few years."

Individually, Mykolenko aims to emulate teammate James Garner's consistency: "That was a good example for me because of how brilliant and how consistent he's been. I like that and want to achieve it, too."

Transfer Implications

Everton remain light at left-back and are expected to explore the market for cover and competition. Adam Aznou may be made available for loan next season. While Mykolenko has performed well defensively, his seven goal involvements in four-and-a-half years suggest a more attacking full-back could complement him and improve Moyes' options.
