Real Madrid are prepared to consider offers for midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, with Manchester United expressing interest in a summer move. The French international, valued at £70 million, could be sold to fund a move for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, who is Mourinho's top target.
United's Midfield Rebuild
Manchester United are looking to overhaul their midfield this summer. A deal for Atalanta's Ederson is expected to be confirmed next month. However, their primary target, Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, is likely to join Manchester City instead. Tchouameni has emerged as a key alternative, with United considering an ambitious bid for the 24-year-old.
United are aiming to sign at least two midfielders following Casemiro's departure, and potentially three if Manuel Ugarte also leaves the club.
Real Madrid's Transfer Strategy
Jose Mourinho, who recently began his second stint as Real Madrid manager, is looking to bring in a creative midfielder. Enzo Fernandez is his top target, but Chelsea are demanding £120 million for the Argentine. To facilitate this, Real need to offload a midfielder.
Eduardo Camavinga is one candidate for departure. According to The Athletic, both Mourinho and the club are prepared to let him go. However, sources close to the player consider an exit this summer 'impossible.' If Camavinga cannot be moved on, selling Tchouameni will be considered.
Fede Valverde, who was involved in a training ground altercation with Tchouameni last month, is not for sale.
Competition for Tchouameni
United's interest in Tchouameni could be encouraged by reports that Real would accept £70 million for the midfielder. However, United also face competition for other targets. They have been focused on West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, valued at £80 million, but are unwilling to meet that price. Tottenham are also interested in Fernandes, who is open to a move to north London.
United's search for midfield reinforcements remains active as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season.
