Morgan Rogers Chelsea Shirt Number Options After £117m Transfer

Chelsea are set to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a massive £117 million deal, making him the club's second summer signing after Marco Palestra arrived from Atalanta. The 23-year-old England international is currently at the World Cup with the Three Lions and started on the right flank in the 2-1 semi-final defeat by Argentina in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this week. According to Standard Sport, the attacking midfielder has chosen Chelsea over Arsenal, who had made him their top transfer target this summer.

Medical and Shirt Number Questions

As Rogers prepares for a medical on Monday ahead of his switch to Stamford Bridge, questions arise about which shirt number he could wear in west London. Of the senior numbers, all from No1 to No11 are taken. Rogers currently wears No27 for Aston Villa, but that number is occupied by Malo Gusto at Chelsea.

Available Numbers at Chelsea

The No16 and No17 are both available, with Lesley Ugochukwu vacating the former and Andrey Santos' £48m move to Manchester United freeing up the latter. No18 is free, with Christopher Nkunku the last to wear it, while Olivier Giroud and Romelu Lukaku are among previous occupants. No22 and No26 are also without owners. If Rogers takes No22, he would follow in the footsteps of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hakim Ziyech, and Willian. No26 carries historic significance as John Terry's number, though it has recently been worn by central defenders like Levi Colwill and Kalidou Koulibaly.
