Legal and General has identified Mid Dunbartonshire as the best place in Scotland for retirees, scoring 55 out of 100 in a comprehensive ranking of 632 constituencies across Great Britain. The assessment considered factors such as housing, healthcare, local communities, finances, green spaces, and amenities.
Top-Ranked Scottish Constituency
Mid Dunbartonshire, located just north of Glasgow, achieved standout scores of 87 for finances and 79 for social and community engagement. The constituency includes several wards within the East Dunbartonshire council area.
Lennoxtown: A Prime Retirement Destination
Within Mid Dunbartonshire, Legal and General highlighted Lennoxtown as an ideal retirement spot. This small town, with a population of around 4,300, sits at the foot of the Campsie Fells, offering spectacular scenery and tranquil surroundings. The Campsie Fells provide scenic walking routes, while gentler trails also wind through the hills. Lennoxtown boasts dining options including Cafe Lucy, fish and chip shop Olivias, and Indian takeaway Bhaji's. Its location near the M80 motorway and regular bus services to Glasgow offer convenient access to broader amenities.
Bearsden: Suburban Retirement Living
Legal and General also singled out Bearsden, about six miles from Glasgow city centre. This prosperous, tree-lined town has a population of around 28,000 and is praised for its warm community spirit, housing stock, and suburban lifestyle. Bearsden offers numerous shops and dining options such as Massimo, serving authentic Italian cuisine for over a decade, and The Station, a sophisticated venue for hot meals and drinks.
Other Top Scottish Retirement Locations
The second-best retirement location in Scotland according to Legal and General is Stirling and Strathallan, scoring 52 out of 100. East Renfrewshire and West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine both scored 51, trailing behind Mid Dunbartonshire.
