Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed head coach of AC Milan, has reportedly shown interest in bringing one of his former Manchester United players to the Serie A club. According to Italian media, Amorim is keen to reunite with midfielder Mason Mount, who played under him at Old Trafford.
Amorim's Transfer Plans at AC Milan
Amorim, who was sacked by Manchester United in January, has already made a significant impact in the transfer market. A club-record £64 million deal for PSG striker Goncalo Ramos has been agreed. Reports also suggested that Amorim was targeting Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte, but that move is on hold after Ugarte suffered a knee injury during the World Cup.
Mount's Struggles at Manchester United
Mount, 27, joined United from Chelsea in 2023 for £55 million. Since then, he has missed 70 games due to injury, recording only seven goals and two assists in three seasons. Despite his struggles, Mount enjoyed his best form under Amorim, who praised his leadership qualities.
United's Stance on Mount
According to the Manchester Evening News, reports of a transfer are inaccurate. There has been no contact between AC Milan and Mount's representatives, who were surprised by the story. Mount remains committed to United and is focused on regaining fitness before pre-season. Manager Michael Carrick views Mount as an important first-team player, especially with Champions League football returning to Old Trafford next season.
Looking Ahead
Manchester United begin their 2026/27 season with a trip to newly-promoted Hull City on August 22. Mount is expected to be part of the squad as he aims to overcome his injury woes and contribute to the team's campaign.
