Marc Cucurella's £52m Real Madrid Transfer Official

Marc Cucurella has officially completed his £51.7m transfer to Real Madrid, with both Chelsea and the Spanish giants confirming the permanent deal that includes an initial fee of £47.4m plus £4.3m in add-ons.

Chelsea have let Marc Cucurella join Real Madrid, bringing his time at the club to a close. The Blues announced that Cucurella will join the La Liga heavyweights on a permanent basis, as they let one of their best and most experienced players leave for £52m. Presently on international duty with Spain at the World Cup in North America, the left-back's move to the Santiago Bernabeu will be formally completed after the tournament.

Chelsea Statement

"Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid," a Chelsea statement read. "Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2022 and was part of the team that claimed the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last year. During Cucurella's stay at Stamford Bridge, the 27 year old defender was a regular for the Spanish national team and won the UEFA European Championships in 2024. Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements. We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."

Real Madrid Confirmation

Real Madrid subsequently announced the signing of Marc Cucurella, with the Spanish international committing to a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. A statement from Madrid confirmed: "Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032."

Cucurella's departure comes just before Xabi Alonso's official start as Chelsea manager on July 1, following his appointment earlier this year. Alonso, a former Real Madrid boss, will now begin the new season without the Blues' primary left-back from the previous campaign. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will seek a replacement in the transfer market. After finishing 10th in the Premier League last season, Chelsea will not participate in European competitions next term. The club's transfer plans for the remainder of the summer are currently uncertain.
