Manchester United's pursuit of a Marcus Rashford replacement could accelerate if West Ham successfully complete a deal of their own. Rashford's hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona have collapsed, leaving his future uncertain.
Rashford's Uncertain Future
Neither party is keen to continue their relationship, and another loan to Barcelona is off the table. The England international will seek a fresh start this summer. As a long-term replacement, United are targeting West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville.
The 24-year-old is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, where he has impressed. For the transfer to happen, relegated West Ham would need to secure a replacement themselves.
West Ham's Potential Signing
That prospect has moved closer after West Ham's interest in Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry. The 21-year-old has just completed a loan at Bolton Wanderers, playing a key role in their promotion via the League One play-offs. A step up to the Championship would be a natural progression, with West Ham reportedly front-runners for his services, according to The Athletic.
Transfer Details
If West Ham secure Cozier-Duberry, it would smooth United's path for Summerville, who is valued at around £50 million, though his price could rise if he continues to shine for the Netherlands. There is no release clause in his West Ham contract. Summerville has already scored two goals and provided an assist in two substitute appearances at the World Cup.
United are not the only club interested in Summerville; Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly keen. The European champions expect to approve Bradley Barcola's exit, leaving them needing a left-sided forward.
Rashford's Options
Regarding Rashford, United have ruled out allowing him to join Manchester City or Liverpool, who have previously shown interest, while Arsenal have cooled their pursuit. Tottenham remain keen, and Rashford is open to another European move. He would command a fee of around £40 million, but his £325,000-per-week wages could be a bigger obstacle.
For now, Rashford will focus on breaking into England's starting XI for the Group L finale against Panama. The 28-year-old came off the bench late in the draw with Ghana.
