Manchester United are bracing themselves for a hectic summer transfer window as the club seeks to overhaul their squad. Boss Michael Carrick will be eager to strengthen the options available to him as his team gears up for Champions League football next season.
Midfield priority after Casemiro departure
The midfield represents a key priority for United following Casemiro's departure at the conclusion of the previous campaign. An agreement has been reached for Atalanta's Ederson, who recently earned a call-up to Brazil's World Cup squad, though additional reinforcements are being sought in that area.
United maintain an interest in Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, who has attracted two offers from Manchester City. West Ham United ace Mateus Fernandes has also been touted as a potential arrival at Old Trafford following the Hammers' relegation. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest news from Old Trafford.
Bayern Munich star re-emerges as target
United are reportedly keeping tabs on how Bayern centre-back Kim Min-Jae fares at the World Cup. The 29-year-old featured for the entire match as his nation fought back to beat Czechia 2-1 on Friday morning.
German publication TZ claims that Kim is on United's watchlist, with the outlet stating that the club have invested time in scouting the defender. Juventus are said to be keen on Kim, who joined Bayern in 2023.
United were previously linked with the centre-back prior to his move from Napoli three years ago. Kim made 37 appearances as Bayern secured the Bundesliga crown and lifted the DFB-Pokal last season.
Carrick already boasts several centre-backs in his squad at United, including Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven. Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt also endured injury-hit campaigns and the manager will be hoping to depend on a stable partnership next term.
Man Utd edge closer to £80m deal
United have reportedly gained ground on Arsenal in the battle to land Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international netted three times and provided four assists in 36 outings for West Ham but could not prevent the club from suffering Premier League relegation.
The Times claims that United are optimistic about securing a deal for Fernandes and hold the advantage over Arsenal in their chase for his services. The 21-year-old could command up to £80m, just a year after his £38m switch from Southampton.
Arsenal are reportedly reluctant to meet West Ham's asking price, which could boost United's prospects of securing a deal. However, Real Madrid may yet scupper the club's plans as incoming manager Jose Mourinho is keen for the Spanish heavyweights to pursue Fernandes.
