Man Utd agree Andre Onana loan deal with Trabzonspor

Manchester United have agreed to loan goalkeeper Andre Onana to Trabzonspor for a second consecutive season, according to club sources. The Cameroonian will spend the 2026-27 campaign with the Turkish side, where he spent the whole of the last season on loan.

Loan move avoids pre-season awkwardness

United sources have confirmed that an agreement is close to being finalised between the two clubs. The move avoids an awkward pre-season scenario that could have seen Onana report back for training while knowing he was trying to find another club. The Red Devils have opted against reintegrating him to compete with Senne Lammens, as they felt Onana's hefty salary and extrovert personality would make him a constant talking point if placed on the bench.

Onana's impressive season at Trabzonspor

Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan last summer after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. Despite a change in manager at United, his future remained bleak. He impressed during his season with Trabzonspor, helping them win the Turkish Cup against Konyaspor in May. Now another year with the club is edging closer.

United's goalkeeping situation

United's goalkeeping situation beyond Lammens remains unclear. They would be willing to offload Altay Bayindir if a suitable offer comes in, but that would leave them without a No 2 under the Belgian, pushing them into the market. Onana was signed from Inter in the summer of 2023 for £47.2 million to replace David de Gea. His distribution was seen as a difference maker, but he made numerous errors that led directly to goals, and patience eventually wore thin.
