Man United Transfer Update: Ederson Stays, Fredricson Nears Exit

Manchester United have launched their pre-season preparations as they aim to show last season's third-place finish wasn't a flash in the pan. Michael Carrick's reward for that finish was a permanent role as manager, and he has been given funds to add to the squad.

Ederson Signs New Atalanta Deal After United Move Collapses

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has signed a new contract with the Italian club, ending any hope of a £38million switch to Old Trafford. The Brazil international had appeared close to a move, but United turned to other targets after identifying a concern during the player's medical.

"After an initial four-year spell in the Nerazzurri colours, marked by outstanding results and mutual satisfaction, the bond between Ederson Jose dos Santos Lourenco da Silva and Atalanta BC has grown even stronger," a club statement read. "Since his first season with the club, the 2022/23 campaign, Ederson has established himself as one of the team's technical leaders, becoming a fan favourite thanks to his quality, determination and competitive spirit."

Fredricson Nears Permanent Exit

Tyler Fredricson is edging towards a permanent United exit, according to BBC Sport. The 21-year-old was omitted from the squad for Saturday's friendly against Wrexham, with reports suggesting a relocation is getting closer. Celtic saw a January move for Fredricson collapse but could return for the youngster. A switch to continental Europe is also possible. The England youth international made his United debut under Ruben Amorim towards the close of the 2024/25 campaign and leaves with just four senior appearances, the most recent as a late substitute in December's Premier League victory over Newcastle United.

Carrick's Squad Taking Shape

Carrick has already made three signings this summer, including Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to plug midfield gaps left by Casemiro's departure, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow as backup to Senne Lammens. With a little over a month until the first league game, things are starting to take shape after Saturday's friendly against Wrexham provided a better idea of what is working.
