Manchester United have completed three signings within a week, adding Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow to Michael Carrick's squad. The trio cost a combined £85 million, but the club may not be done yet. The latest action at the World Cup could prompt United to pursue another midfielder: Roma's Manu Kone.
Kone's World Cup campaign ends
Kone helped France reach the semi-final of the World Cup, but Les Bleus suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain on Tuesday night in Dallas. France will now play in the third-place play-off on Saturday. With their tournament effectively over, Kone's future could become a key talking point in the transfer window.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive season with Roma last term, scoring two goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Reports suggest Kone could be available for around €60 million (£51 million) this summer.
Interest from multiple clubs
United are not the only club credited with an interest in Kone. Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have also been mentioned as potential suitors. Earlier in the summer, Inter Milan were linked with the France international. It looks likely that the 25-year-old's future will be a subject of speculation throughout the transfer window.
United have already bolstered their midfield with Santos and Tielemans, but they may still look to add another player in that position. A move for Kone would take United's spending well beyond the £100 million mark if completed.
Other targets mentioned
Real Madrid stars Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have also been mentioned as potential targets for United this summer. However, Kone appears to be a more realistic option given his price tag and availability.
United fans will be watching closely to see if the club moves quickly now that France's World Cup run is over. The transfer window remains open, and Carrick may look to strengthen further.
