Man United Close to Agreeing Andre Onana Loan Deal

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is close to agreeing another loan move to Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club set to cover his wages for a second season. United had preferred a permanent sale this summer but will accept a loan deal that includes a fee and full salary coverage.

Onana's Successful Loan Spell

Onana started every league game for Trabzonspor last season, helping them finish third in the Turkish Super Lig. His performances earned widespread praise from local media, and he benefited from Turkey's 20% tax rate for players, effectively giving him a pay rise.

Financial Constraints and PSR Implications

United needed to sell Onana for around £20 million this summer to avoid a loss under the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). That figure will decrease next year due to amortisation. By loaning him out again, United avoid a immediate PSR hit but forgo a permanent fee.

Goalkeeping Changes at Old Trafford

Manager Ruben Amorim initially dropped Onana at the start of the season, favouring Altay Bayindir. However, Senne Lammens became first-choice after his debut in October and was later named the Premier League's Transfer of the Season. Lammens went unbeaten in 28 of his 32 appearances, keeping eight clean sheets. Bayindir, 28, is also expected to leave this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Contract Situation

Onana remains under contract at United until the summer of 2028, giving the club time to seek a permanent transfer in future windows.
