Man City May Need Record Fee for Anderson After Rejection

Manchester City have had an initial bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson rejected, according to reports. The Premier League champions are seeking a replacement for captain Bernardo Silva, who has confirmed his departure.

City's opening offer was turned down, with Forest valuing the 23-year-old England international at £100 million or more. Anderson still has three years left on his contract at the City Ground.

If City are to secure Anderson, they would likely need to break their club transfer record of £100 million, paid for Jack Grealish in 2021. Premier League clubs have previously paid nine-figure sums for midfielders, including Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, and Arsenal's Declan Rice for £105 million.

Anderson has also attracted interest from Manchester United, though City have long been favourites to sign the former Newcastle player. Meanwhile, City have spent around £430 million on new signings in the last three transfer windows.

Beyond Silva's exit, there are doubts over the futures of Rodri, who will address his future after the World Cup amid links to Real Madrid, and Nico Gonzalez.
