Liverpool midfielder Luca Stephenson has completed a permanent move to Championship side Bolton Wanderers in a £700,000 deal. The transfer includes a 20% sell-on clause, as confirmed by the clubs.
Stephenson's Liverpool career
The 22-year-old, who was in the final year of his Liverpool contract, joined the Reds' Academy from Sunderland at under-15 level. He went on to captain the U18s and featured in the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy before a loan spell at League Two side Barrow in 2023/24.
Stephenson was involved with the senior team during the last two pre-seasons under former boss Arne Slot but failed to make a competitive senior squad appearance.
Loan spells and injury
He spent the last two seasons on loan at Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, where he was a regular starter. However, his most recent campaign was cut short due to injury. Stephenson recently expressed his openness to leaving Liverpool in search of regular first-team football.
Bolton move details
Having been given permission to leave, Stephenson has now linked up with Bolton. The Reds agreed a deal worth £700,000, which also includes a 20% sell-on clause, ensuring Liverpool benefit from any future transfer of the player.
