Liverpool's transfer window activity has stalled since signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna last month, but fresh developments emerged on Thursday regarding a long-term target and former manager Jurgen Klopp's future.
Klopp Confirms Germany Talks
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he is in discussions to become the next Germany manager following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation after the World Cup exit to Paraguay. Speaking to German broadcaster Magenta, Klopp said he does not expect Red Bull to block the move.
"Yes, I can confirm the talks," Klopp said. "Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they're talking to me."
Klopp, who serves as Red Bull's global head of soccer, added: "I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I've said many times how much I enjoy this job. As a person, I usually honour contracts. But I've also made it clear that I'm interested in talks with the DFB."
He noted that he must speak with Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff. "I assume he won't stand in the way. I've been there for 19 months. It was an intense time. I'm ready."
Real Madrid Make Decision on Tchouameni
Real Madrid have decided to keep Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, ending Liverpool's hopes of signing the French midfielder. According to TEAMtalk, new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has halted any potential departure despite interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.
The 26-year-old has been a key figure in Madrid's recent successes and "will be given the opportunity to establish himself as a guaranteed starter next season," the report states. Liverpool had been confident of securing the player as recently as last month.
Tchouameni was a target for former Liverpool manager Klopp as early as 2022, but the club's transfer strategy suffered a blow after Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande chose Paris Saint-Germain over the Reds.
Other Liverpool Transfer News
Liverpool have already secured French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for around £60 million, a deal agreed in January. Spanish winger Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna last month and is currently representing Spain at the World Cup.
However, progress on further arrivals and departures has been slow, with the club now focusing on alternative targets after missing out on Diomande and Tchouameni.
