Liverpool sell Curtis Jones to Inter Milan for £30m

Liverpool have agreed to sell Curtis Jones to Inter Milan in a deal that could rise to more than £30million. The Serie A side have tracked Jones throughout the summer transfer window and have seen a number of offers turned down by the Reds, who valued Jones, 25, at £35m.

Deal details and medical

Back in June, Inter had a £21m bid rejected for the midfielder and it was thought at the time negotiations were finished, given the considerable difference in valuation between the two parties. But now, according to Sky Sport Italy, Inter and Liverpool have come to an agreement on a move for Jones with all documents exchanged and signed. It's believed the Nerazzurri are set to pay £25.75m fixed with £4.29m in bonuses, taking the total transfer to a little more than £30m.

As well as that, Liverpool have a 10 per cent interest on any future sale for Jones, who has been granted authorisation to travel to Milan for a medical and to complete the formalities of his move.

Injury and contract situation

Jones missed Liverpool's final two pre-season friendlies against Monaco and Como with a hip problem, though he has still featured in team training at the AXA Centre. Last month, new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola spoke about his hopes of extending Jones' contract and said he planned to talk to the England international about his long-term future.

"I rate Curtis very highly," Iraola said. "For me he is a great, great player and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing. It's very important that he's Scouse; that he's from here. I also like the personality. From the outside at least he looks like a player with good character and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time."

But with Jones having less than 12 months remaining on his current deal, Liverpool are reluctant to let another high-profile player leave on a free after Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson departed earlier this summer.

Playing time and future impact

It's thought that Jones has become frustrated by a lack of first-team game time, with the midfielder having started just 16 of Liverpool's 38 Premier League matches last season. He is behind Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in the midfield pecking order at Anfield.

With Jones expected to leave, Trey Nyoni is set to have a more prominent role in the team after an impressive pre-season under Iraola, who was appointed as Arne Slot's replacement earlier this summer.
