Liverpool have reportedly entered the race for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, joining Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the 21-year-old. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool made a call to West Ham two weeks ago to enquire about Fernandes, though no bid or official conversation followed.
Liverpool's Interest Confirmed
Romano, speaking on the Born 'N Red YouTube channel, stated: "Liverpool made a call two weeks ago to understand the situation of Mateus Fernandes at West Ham, to understand the price and conditions, but they didn't return with any bid or any official conversation." He added that the player is expected to be expensive, with a price tag exceeding £85 million.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Fernandes for several weeks as they look to strengthen their midfield. Tottenham and Arsenal have also been linked with the Portuguese international, who is valued at around £80 million.
United's Summer Plans
United have already agreed a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta for an initial £35 million, plus £3.8 million in add-ons. The club continues to pursue midfield reinforcements, with Fernandes remaining a potential target.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's midfield plans may also involve the future of Curtis Jones. Inter Milan have expressed interest in the 25-year-old, but Liverpool turned down a £21.7 million offer from the Serie A club, holding out for a fee closer to £35 million.
It remains to be seen whether Fernandes will become a serious target for either club as the summer transfer window progresses.
