Lili Reinhart Shines in Netflix's 'Look Both Ways'

Lili Reinhart, best known for her role in 'Riverdale', stars in Netflix's new film 'Look Both Ways', a psychological thriller that explores the 'what if?' question through dual timelines. The film, directed by Wanuri Kahiu and written by April Prosser, follows recent college graduate Natalie Bennett as her life splits into two paths following an unexpected pregnancy.

In one timeline, Natalie tests negative for pregnancy and moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood animator. In the other, she tests positive, decides to keep the baby, and moves back in with her parents in Texas. The film covers five years in both timelines, which intersect smoothly.

The LA timeline is grounded in reality, depicting Natalie's struggles as an assistant to her hero, animation studio boss Lucy, played by Nia Long. She begins dating a co-worker and works to find her creative voice. The motherhood timeline, however, is more idealized, glossing over financial difficulties and focusing on co-parenting with Gabe, played by Danny Ramirez.

Despite the imbalance between the two storylines, Reinhart's performance is a highlight. She brings depth to the script's clichés and exposition, making the film an easy watch. The warm colours, easy listening soundtrack, and animated title slides add to its appeal.

'Look Both Ways' is a zillennial take on the 'Sliding Doors' concept, offering a comforting exploration of fate and choice. While it avoids difficult topics like reproductive health, it remains engaging thanks to Reinhart's compelling portrayal of a woman navigating two possible futures.
