Liverpool Chase Barcola: PSG Star Faces Limbo Over £145m

Bradley Barcola may face a difficult situation at Paris Saint-Germain this summer if Liverpool cannot secure his signature, given Luis Enrique's firm stance on player commitment.

Liverpool's Priority Target

The Reds have been monitoring the 23-year-old winger for some time, aiming to bring him to Anfield for the 2026/27 season. Andoni Iraola is seeking attacking reinforcements after Cody Gakpo's inconsistent season and Mohamed Salah's departure. While Yan Diomande, Said El Mala and Yankuba Minteh have been linked, Barcola is reportedly priority number one. He comes off a Ligue 1 and Champions League winning season with PSG and a standout World Cup campaign for France.

The £145m Stumbling Block

However, PSG are in no rush to sell one of their most prized assets, who has two years left on his contract. The club demands a staggering £145 million, which would be a British record transfer. This is despite CIES Football Observatory valuing him at around £85 million. If Liverpool cannot agree a deal in the coming weeks, Barcola's future under Enrique could become bleak.

Club sources told The Athletic that the Spaniard only wants committed players in his squad. Barcola's openness to a move away from the French capital may see him fall out of favour, potentially being dropped to the bench or reserves.

Competition and Alternatives

Arsenal have also been linked with Barcola, though Vinicius Jr appears a more likely target for them. If Arsenal can prise Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid, Liverpool would be the only Premier League club realistically able to sign Barcola. However, Real Madrid are asking around £137 million for the Brazilian, who is also due for contract extension talks. Vinicius Jr will reportedly not return to pre-season training under Jose Mourinho until those talks are concluded.

If a deal for Barcola fails, Liverpool have other options. Chelsea's Pedro Neto has been mentioned, but the Portuguese forward would not come cheap as Chelsea seek to recoup significant spending. Porto's Oskar Pietuszewski is another possibility, though the 18-year-old may need more development before being ready for regular Premier League football.
