Leeds United have reached an agreement to sign Wales international Harry Wilson as a free agent, with the winger set to move to Elland Road following the expiration of his contract with Fulham on June 30.
Wilson's standout season attracts suitors
The 29-year-old enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career last season, scoring 10 Premier League goals and providing seven assists for Fulham. His performances earned him the club's Player of the Season award and attracted interest from Everton and Aston Villa.
However, Leeds United have won the race for his signature. Wilson is expected to turn down a new contract offer from Fulham to join Daniel Farke's side.
Long-term deal with higher salary seals move
According to The Athletic, a key factor in Leeds' success was their offer of a "long-term deal with a higher salary." The 69-cap Wales international will undergo a medical in due course before finalising the move.
The transfer comes after a previous deal for Wilson collapsed on the final day of last summer's transfer window due to a paperwork issue. Reflecting on that episode in a December interview with Sky Sports, Wilson said: "It was the first time it had happened to me. I'm used to watching it on Sky Sports, so to be part of it was different. My phone was going off every two minutes."
Welsh contingent at Elland Road
Wilson joins a growing Welsh contingent at Leeds, with international teammates Ethan Ampadu (the club captain), Daniel James, and Joe Rodon already at the club. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, also Welsh, is out of contract this summer and his future is uncertain.
Wilson is set to be Leeds' first summer signing, with the club also exploring moves for Southampton's Shea Charles and Borussia Dortmund's Julian Brandt.
Fulham's summer shake-up
Fulham face significant changes this summer. In addition to Wilson's departure, Raul Jimenez is returning to Wolves and Samuel Chukwueze's loan from AC Milan has ended. The club is also searching for a new manager after Marco Silva's exit, with former Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa reportedly close to taking over at Craven Cottage.
