Klopp hints at return as Liverpool accelerate Diomande deal

Liverpool are gearing up for a pivotal summer transfer window as they aim to finish the current campaign on a high note. The Reds face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, where supporters have organised a stadium-wide protest against rising ticket prices.

Slot urges fan support amid protests

Manager Arne Slot has called on fans to get behind the team as they enter the final five matches of the season. He stated: "As long as I have been in football, there have been disagreements, and they are always about people who have the best interests of the club at heart. Two weeks ago, there was a protest, yet we felt we had the full backing of the supporters. We will need that support again."

Slot has faced his own share of criticism this season, with former boss Jurgen Klopp repeatedly linked with a return to steady the ship. The Dutchman has endured pressure in the Anfield dugout following a disappointing Champions League exit and a string of poor domestic results.

Jurgen Klopp's return stance

Klopp has hinted that he could consider a return to management after attending the opening of the New York Red Bulls' new training facility. The ex-Liverpool manager joked that only bad weather deterred him from going back into the dugout.

Klopp stepped down from management in 2024, leaving the Reds to become Red Bull's global head of soccer. However, speculation about his return to the touchline has only intensified since his departure. Speaking at the facility's opening, he said: "This morning, when I walked in, I thought, 'Oh, that's something I could miss,' because so far I haven't missed anything since I stepped down as a manager. But going into a building like that on a good weather day... thank God the weather wasn't great, otherwise I might have gone back [to management]. Really cool."

Discussing the facility, he added: "It's a good moment for soccer, for Red Bull New York. I had nothing to do with the plans or anything like that. I walked through a few months ago and made a few little changes because it's not the first time I've been involved in something like that. It's beautiful and feels like a proper start."

Dream transfer 'accelerates'

Liverpool have reportedly held meetings with representatives of Yan Diomande ahead of a potential summer move. The RB Leipzig star is viewed as an ideal replacement for the departing Mohamed Salah, who will leave the Reds at the end of the season after a stellar nine-year stint.

The 19-year-old winger has big shoes to fill, given Salah's more than 350 goal contributions at Anfield. However, Diomande has impressed this season with 12 goals and 17 assists, attracting interest from several top clubs. An asking price of around £86 million has been set for the teenager, with Paris Saint-Germain also showing strong interest. The French club have likewise held meetings with Diomande's agents. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest, allowing Liverpool to fast-track their plans for a Salah replacement this summer.
