Kate Middleton's Fave Beauty Brand for Under £40

Skincare fans can bag premium products for less with this limited-edition beauty secret. Shopping writer Lauren has found a way to nab two premium Rodial products for £20 each.

Beauty Boxes: A Convenient Way to Update Your Collection

Beauty boxes have emerged as one of the most convenient methods to update skincare and cosmetics collections without breaking the bank. And I've come across a new beauty bundle that's especially noteworthy for those preparing for the summer months.

The OK! Getaway Edit boasts a value exceeding £175 but can be purchased for £39.99, allowing customers to save more than £135. The collection features 10 holiday-themed beauty and wellness items, with the highlight being Rodial Dragon's Blood SPF 15 Velvet Cream, which retails at £65 individually – meaning it alone costs significantly more than the complete beauty box.

In addition to the premium SPF product, customers will also get six additional full-sized items from labels such as Hello Sunday, The Beauty Crop and Perfectil. There's also a selection of travel-sized essentials ideal for packing into holiday luggage.

So when the box arrived at my desk, I was eager to explore its contents and determine whether it was worth the price – particularly as I'm a devoted Rodial enthusiast. Here's what I discovered.

First Impressions of The Getaway Edit

My first response was sheer delight. I'm a passionate Rodial devotee, though it's one of those labels I tend to appreciate from a distance due to the often steep prices. My go-to Vit C Brightening Cleansing Pads, for instance, retail at approximately £49, positioning them as an intermittent indulgence rather than a regular staple.

Therefore, finding not just one but two Rodial products in the OK! box felt like quite a coup. The standout item is certainly the Dragon's Blood SPF 15 Velvet Cream, which belongs to the brand's top-selling Dragon's Blood collection, reportedly favoured by famous faces such as Lady Gaga and Kate Middleton.

I anticipated an extremely light texture, but it turned out to be somewhat richer than expected. Fortunately, it sinks in rapidly without leaving a noticeable white residue, ensuring skin feels moisturised, revitalised, and pleasantly shielded. The delicate scent is an added advantage, featuring gentle floral tones complemented by a mildly fruity undertone that feels indulgent without being overpowering.

My sole concern relates to the SPF level itself. At SPF15, it falls below what I'd typically opt for, especially during summer months, when I favour stronger protection for my pale complexion. Paula's Choice Calm SPF 30 (£39, Sephora) continues to be my daily go-to for that reason, though I'd gladly use the Rodial formula on days with weaker UV exposure or incorporate it into my morning skincare regime.

The second Rodial item is the Blush Drops in Frosted Pink, valued at a substantial £39 on their own – nearly equivalent to the cost of the complete beauty box. I've been using the Apricot shade for some time now and really enjoy it.

Just one or two drops are sufficient to achieve a radiant complexion, meaning the bottle lasts for months and makes the premium price more reasonable. The pink variant provides the same glowing effect, adding a gentle sparkle to the skin that works beautifully for summery looks or complementing a freshly applied fake tan.

One minor note from personal experience: my Apricot bottle eventually began to leak, so it's advisable to keep it upright or store it in a leakproof pouch while travelling. Alternatively, Rodial offers a Cream Blush (£39) that is essentially identical to the liquid version, minus the shimmer and the risk of spillage.

More Summer-Ready Favourites

Beyond Rodial, an unexpected highlight has been Hello Sunday's The One For Your Hands SPF30 Hand Cream. Hands are likely the area where I most frequently neglect to reapply sun protection after washing, so having a compact SPF designed specifically for them proves remarkably handy. The formulation feels light rather than oily and evokes the scent of a summer getaway, making the task of maintaining protection far more pleasant.

Another noteworthy product is grüum's Pulse Point Roller Ball, which seemed an unusual choice for a holiday-inspired collection at first glance. However, this is actually my second rollerball from the company, and I've grown fond of applying it before sleep thanks to its soothing lavender-and-chamomile combination. The chilled metal applicator also feels delightful against the skin, especially following a tiring day.

I was equally delighted by The Beauty Crop's Melting Lip Balm in Popping Peony. The vibrant pink hue provides just the right amount of colour without becoming excessively tacky, while keeping lips feeling supple and moisturised all day long. I did need to top it up every couple of hours, but it's small enough to slip into any handbag or beach bag.

The travel-size shampoo and conditioner have intentionally stayed sealed for the time being, as I'm keeping them for my August getaway. In truth, that's precisely what they're for – handy items that make organising beauty essentials that bit simpler.

There's also a miniature Commodity perfume with hints of strawberry, rhubarb and raspberry pulp. While I wouldn't claim the fragrance lasted all day, it's a delightful fruity scent, perfect for tucking into your bag for quick touch-ups when you're on the go.

The Perfectil Skin supplements contain 56 tablets formulated to promote healthy-looking skin, hair and nails, providing customers with nearly two months' worth that can be conveniently tucked into carry-on luggage.

Lastly, the Isoclean Hypochlorous Spray could well be amongst the most useful items in the collection. Formulated to ease irritation and strengthen the skin barrier, I can already imagine using it after long days in the sunshine or to settle any unforeseen holiday skin reactions, while keeping my complexion feeling revitalised and hydrated.

Overall Verdict: The Getaway Edit

Beauty boxes offer an enjoyable way to explore new skincare and cosmetics without paying full retail prices, but the OK! Getaway Edit particularly excels in value for money. Containing over £175 worth of beauty products for merely £39.99, the savings are difficult to overlook – particularly considering the £65 Rodial Dragon's Blood SPF alone exceeds the cost of the complete box.

While not every item will necessarily become an everyday essential, the combination of premium skincare, cosmetics and travel-sized products feels genuinely practical rather than bulked out with unnecessary additions. The Rodial range represents the standout offerings, while the Hello Sunday hand SPF and Beauty Crop lip balm have earned a permanent place in my handbag.

All in all, it's amongst the most impressive value-for-money beauty collections I've encountered this season, providing an accessible way to sample several high-end beauty brands simultaneously.
