Julian Alvarez Transfer Request: Gavi Says It's His Dream to Join Barca

Julian Alvarez has formally requested to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, with Barcelona and Arsenal among the clubs interested in the Argentine forward. Barcelona midfielder Gavi has now stated that it is Alvarez's dream to play for the Catalan club.

Alvarez's Transfer Request and Future Plans

The 26-year-old, who joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024, has scored 49 goals in 106 appearances for the Spanish side. Despite having four years remaining on his contract, Alvarez has expressed his desire to move on. Speaking earlier this summer, he said: “This isn’t the time to talk about this, but I can’t hide either; I try to be an honest person. I spoke with the people at Atlético Madrid, and I think the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream.”

Gavi's Comments on Alvarez's Dream Move

When asked about the possibility of Alvarez joining Barcelona, Gavi responded: “Hopefully. We’ll see what he decides to do with his future, but of course I’d love him to be with us. Besides, it’s his dream.” This aligns with reports that Alvarez has long been keen on a move to the Camp Nou.

Atletico Madrid's Stance

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo expressed surprise at Alvarez's comments, stating: "It caught us by surprise and we have done what we had to do. We’ve said that he is an Atletico de Madrid player and that we have no offers from anyone. Even if there were offers, we do not want to sell him."

Barcelona's Offer and Laporta's Statement

Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed that the club has made a substantial offer for Alvarez. He said: "[Barça sporting director] Deco made an offer of a certain amount of money for [Álvarez], who has wanted to join us since he was at City. I spoke with [Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel] Gil Marín. He told me they were not planning to let him go, but the offer is firm and we stand by it. It remains on the table and the deal could still go through, but the offer is not open-ended. Atlético said no because they didn't have a replacement. If they get one, we will see."

Arsenal's Interest

Arsenal have also been linked with Alvarez, but Gavi's comments suggest that the player's preference may be a move to Barcelona. The Gunners will need to compete with the La Liga giants if they hope to secure his signature.
