Hearts are on the verge of completing their 11th summer signing, with Dutch goalkeeper Beau Reus arriving in Edinburgh for a medical. The 24-year-old is set to join the Jambos ahead of next week's Champions League second round qualifier against Sturm Graz.
Reus' journey to Tynecastle
Reus came through the ranks at AZ Alkmaar and played a key role in Beveren's undefeated campaign last season, which saw them win promotion to the Belgian Pro League. Despite interest from Werder Bremen and Malaga, and Beveren's desire to keep him, Reus has opted to reunite with manager Wouter Vrancken at Tynecastle, according to Voetbal International.
Competition for places
Reus will provide competition for experienced German goalkeeper Alex Schwolow, who arrived shortly after the start of last season under Derek McInnes. Schwolow displaced Zander Clark as first-choice, and Clark is now almost certain to leave, having fallen behind Schwolow, Craig Gordon, and Ryan Fulton in the pecking order.
Gordon is widely expected to retire following Scotland's World Cup campaign, though he has yet to discuss his future with Vrancken. Meanwhile, young goalkeeper Liam McFarlane is set to join Partick Thistle on loan, and Harty Stone will spend the season on loan at Ayr United.
