Everton and Chelsea in Talks Over Permanent Tyrique George Transfer
Everton, Chelsea in Talks Over Tyrique George Transfer

Everton and Chelsea are in dialogue over a potential permanent transfer for winger Tyrique George, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park. The 20-year-old made a positive impression at Finch Farm, though his first-team opportunities were limited.

Loan Details and Option to Buy

The initial loan agreement contained an option for Everton to make the move permanent. However, as reported by the ECHO in May, Everton were only willing to exercise that option if Chelsea agreed to renegotiate the price and structure. Both clubs are now exploring whether a compromise can be reached, according to The Athletic.

George's Impact at Everton

Despite failing to register a goal or assist in his 11 appearances for the Blues, George created several clear-cut chances that were not converted by teammates. He came off the bench to set up golden opportunities for Thierno Barry, Iliman Ndiaye, and Jake O'Brien against West Ham United, Crystal Palace, and Sunderland respectively. His substitute appearance against Tottenham Hotspur helped Everton gain a foothold, and he forced an excellent save from goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky in stoppage time.

Manager David Moyes ended the season with the view that a permanent deal depended on cost, not George's ability. The club's chiefs were impressed by his cameos and how he settled at the training ground.

Chelsea's Stance and Club Relations

New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has a squad with significant depth in wide areas, making the club open to selling George. The two clubs have a strong relationship after multiple recent deals: Everton signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea last summer, loaned Armando Broja the previous year, and saw promising defender Ishe Samuels-Smith move in the opposite direction.

Everton's Summer Transfer Plans

Should a deal for George be completed, he would become Everton's third summer signing. The club has already made Merlin Rohl's loan from Freiburg permanent after avoiding relegation, and is on the brink of signing Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney for £25 million.
