Derek McInnes Appointed Rangers Manager in Emotional Ibrox Return
Derek McInnes Returns to Rangers as New Manager

Derek McInnes is back at Rangers, 26 years after leaving the club as a player. The 54-year-old has been appointed as the 22nd permanent manager in the club's history, succeeding Danny Rohl, who has departed for RB Salzburg.

Homecoming at Ibrox

McInnes, a boyhood Rangers fan, spent five years as a player at Ibrox after being signed by Walter Smith from Morton. He was part of the historic nine-in-a-row team before moving to West Bromwich Albion. He later returned to Scotland as a player with Dundee United and St Johnstone, where he began his managerial career.

After being linked with the Rangers job on multiple occasions over the years, and even rejecting the opportunity nine years ago, McInnes has finally taken the helm at his boyhood heroes.

Previous Success

McInnes led Hearts to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season, finishing eight points above Rangers. His managerial career also includes successful spells at Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, and St Johnstone.

Rohl's Departure

Danny Rohl's exit was prompted by RB Salzburg, who made him their top target to replace the sacked Daniel Beichler. Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, now head of global soccer at Red Bull, pushed for Rohl to take charge of the Austrian Bundesliga outfit. Rangers confirmed Rohl's departure after less than eight months at Ibrox, with compensation believed to be around £2 million. Matthias Kaltenbach remains at the club for now.

Reaction to Appointment

The appointment has been met with emotional reactions from fans and pundits alike, marking a significant moment in Rangers' recent history. McInnes has outlined his demands for the role, emphasizing his commitment to restoring the club's success.
