Danny Rohl Awaits Rangers Future Decision Amid Salzburg Interest

Danny Rohl is waiting for Rangers to make a decision on his future as Red Bull Salzburg pushes to appoint him as their new head coach. The Austrian club has made an approach to the Ibrox side to speak to the German tactician.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh in America

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh was spotted at a security checkpoint before a training session at the Revolution Training Centre in Foxborough, Massachusetts. He and chief executive Jim Gillespie attended the North American Rangers Supporters Association event. Cavenagh also dropped in on Scotland training on the eve of their World Cup opener against Haiti.

Rohl, 37, just returned from holiday in the past 24 hours and has been informed of the discussions between the two clubs. He is now waiting for a conclusion to see if Rangers will allow him to speak to Salzburg or decide to keep him at Ibrox.

Rohl Not Pushing for Exit

According to Record Sport, Rohl is not actively pushing to leave Rangers. Salzburg are willing to pay compensation and are likely to meet Rohl's demands, though no discussions on the latter have occurred. The delay could give Rangers time to line up replacements should they give Rohl the go-ahead.

Former boss Steven Gerrard, who led Rangers to their last title, was interviewed by Cavenagh previously and was in Scotland earlier this week. He would be a popular appointment among fans. Hearts boss Derek McInnes has also been mentioned as a potential replacement.

Rohl's Rangers Tenure

Rohl joined Rangers last season and turned their fortunes around after Russell Martin's disastrous reign. He brought Rangers back into the title race, but a collapse in the top six saw them finish a disappointing third, drawing the wrath of angry fans. Rangers must now decide whether to change or stick with the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Rohl is no stranger to the Red Bull group. He had discussions with them before taking the Rangers job and has previously coached at Red Bull Leipzig. The group rates him highly, and Jurgen Klopp has also pushed for Rohl. Salzburg wants someone to restore their dominance in Austria after falling behind LASK, who won the title, and Sturm Graz, champions in the previous two seasons. Success at Salzburg could open even bigger doors within the group.
