All 31 branches of Coughlan Bakery, a family-run chain co-owned by comedian Romesh Ranganathan, have ceased trading with immediate effect after the business went into liquidation. Managing Director Sean Coughlan and Ranganathan confirmed the closure on social media on Tuesday, with Ranganathan stating, “gutted isn’t the word.”
Reasons for Closure
Rising costs, including national insurance contributions, business rates, spikes in fuel prices, and poor footfall during recent heatwaves, forced the chain to close its doors after 89 years of operation. The family-run business, which had been operating since 1937, had stores across south London, Surrey, Kent, and West Sussex.
