Bologna remain keen on Connor Barron, and this interest could play a role in Rangers' pursuit of Lewis Ferguson. The Serie A side has maintained a strong long-term interest in the Rangers midfielder, having been keen on him when he left Aberdeen for Ibrox in 2024.
Bologna's persistent interest
Bologna had asked Barron to hold off on a move, but he couldn't as he had an offer from Rangers. They have continued to watch the Scotland international closely and made an approach to Rangers last season, which was rebuffed by former sporting director Kevin Thelwell. Bologna wanted to know if Rangers would sell, but it was a firm no at that point. They still have the Scotland international on their list, and the player's camp is aware of the ongoing interest.
Rangers' pursuit of Ferguson
It remains to be seen if Rangers would sell Barron this summer. New manager Derek McInnes was a fan of Barron as he came through the ranks at Aberdeen. The Light Blues, however, are keen to try and land Ferguson from Bologna. They have made an enquiry and know it would be a tricky deal to land. Bologna value their captain in the eight-figure category and also have strong interest from rivals Roma and Atalanta.
Financial considerations
It remains to be seen if Rangers would have the finance to do the deal, although it could happen if the likes of Belgian World Cup star Nicolas Raskin was sold. Raskin has been linked with Hull City, Atalanta and Real Betis. McInnes previously signed Ferguson from Hamilton and made him a key player at Aberdeen. Ferguson has since turned into a key player for club and country and was part of Scotland's World Cup squad.
Other targets
Rangers are also keen on Partizan Belgrade midfielder Vanja Dragojevic. They had a £3.8 million bid turned down last week, but are continuing their pursuit.
