Chelsea have accelerated their pursuit of Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra over the past 24 hours, entering a direct competition with Inter Milan for the 21-year-old's signature. Standard Sport understands that the Blues have moved swiftly and are now serious contenders to secure the Italy U21 international.
Palestra's Standout Season and Price Tag
Palestra impressed during a loan spell at Cagliari this season, showcasing his versatility at both right-back and right wing-back. His performances have attracted interest from several European clubs, with a fee of approximately £45 million expected to seal a deal. Inter had previously been the frontrunners, but Chelsea have strengthened their position by approaching Atalanta directly after holding talks with the player's representatives.
Additional Defensive Targets
Standard Sport reported earlier on Monday that Chelsea also hold genuine interest in Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix. Lacroix is part of a list of defensive targets that includes Como's Jacobo Ramon, who was also of interest during the January transfer window.
Chelsea are expected to make multiple signings this summer, with at least two intended to be top-level players capable of slotting straight into the starting XI ahead of Xabi Alonso's first season in charge. The club has already lost senior left-back Marc Cucurella, who returned to Spain to join Real Madrid after the World Cup.
Chalobah's Situation
Serie A side Como are monitoring Trevoh Chalobah's situation. Chalobah was Chelsea's most consistent central defender last season, but the club is open to selling him for the right price this summer.
