Arsenal's interest and transfer fee demands
The 26-year-old is viewed as an option to strengthen Arsenal's left flank under Mikel Arteta. Vinicius Jr notched 22 goals and registered 14 assists in 53 appearances for Real Madrid last season, despite a disappointing campaign for the Spanish giants. Negotiations over a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu have reportedly hit an impasse, potentially opening the door for Arteta's side.
Spanish publication SPORT claims that Arsenal will be required to shatter the British transfer record to secure him. The current record is held by Alexander Isak's £125 million move from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer. Should Arsenal meet the reported £137 million asking price, they would exceed that by at least £12 million, though Real may demand more. The report also indicates that Real Madrid will refuse to enter discussions unless the fee is satisfied, with add-ons tied to performance and silverware potentially included.
Contract talks and Mourinho's stance
It is reported that the player and club arranged to meet at the end of July to explore a potential contract extension, with Arsenal monitoring developments closely. Real manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made clear he wants Vinicius Jr to stay at the Spanish capital. The Telegraph reports that Mourinho would oppose the Brazilian's departure to join Arteta's side.
However, Real may need to raise capital, as reports indicate they are contemplating a £102 million pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. Arsenal have also lodged an enquiry for the Ivorian. If Diomande opts for Real, that could heighten the likelihood of Vinicius Jr arriving at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

When asked in 2024 whether Arsenal needed to enter the race for players like Kylian Mbappe, Arteta replied: "Exactly. Why not? If we want to be the best team, then you need to have the best players, that's for sure." He added: "When there is a player of that calibre, we always have to be in that conversation. But it looks in a different way, that's what I would say."
