Newcastle have already seen Sandro Tonali depart to Tottenham this summer and cannot afford another midfield exit. However, at 28, Guimaraes may need to move now to win major trophies. Newcastle will only consider selling him for upwards of £80m. Arsenal are also eyeing Bournemouth's 22-year-old Alex Scott as a potential midfield replacement.

Arsenal have welcomed Fabio Vieira back for pre-season training despite a bid from Hamburg. According to football.london, Arsenal remain unmoved by Hamburg's overtures for the playmaker, who impressed on loan last season. Hamburg decided against activating a £17m clause for a permanent transfer. Board member Eric Huwer told Kicker: "We've kind of fallen in love with Fabio. We're fighting for him every day and have also submitted figures to Arsenal. They're not even budging yet.
