A woman has shared a video taken by her husband that turned from ordinary family footage into something resembling a horror film. Brooke posted the clip online, showing her tidying her child's nursery, when the camera later zooms in on a giant spider crawling on a lampshade in the background.
Missed visitor
In the caption, Brooke joked about "burning the house down" after the frightening discovery. She wrote: "Sorry I'm going to need to burn my house down now he really said. Spooky season." In the clip, she added: "POV: You and your husband are so focused on recording the video that you didn't notice the literal GIANT spider crawling on your lampshade."
The video shows Brooke organising toys and ducks in the nursery before the camera zooms in on the spider. One commenter joked: "Spider wanted you to get his good side."
Spider season
Spider mating season peaks in September, with households urged to "remain vigilant" as large spiders are set to invade. Following hot weather in July and August, house spiders are poised to "become larger" and appear in greater quantity, as males leave their hiding spots to search for females.
Insect behaviour specialist Dee Patel explained on Good Morning Britain that the very hot summer means there will be a plague of spiders this autumn. He said: "We've had one of the hottest summers on record in Britain, as you said, and this has actually sped up their development cycles. Spiders are ectotherms, so they have cold blood and the warmth really affects the way they develop."
Patel added: "So, what we're seeing is many more of them, quicker successions of generations, and just I love spiders, obviously, so I'm quite happy to see them."
