A wildfire tore through a beauty spot in Fife on Monday evening before it was successfully tackled and extinguished. Fire crews raced to Lochore Meadows Country Park near Lochgelly after the alarm was raised shortly before 7.40pm on August 10.
Fire crews respond to gorse blaze
Two teams from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were sent to tackle the gorse blaze which tore through an area near the banks of Loch Ore. At the height of the fire between 20 and 30 square metres of ground was alight while a huge plume of smoke filled the evening sky.
Images of the fire shared on social media show orange flames burning through the woodlands above the loch sending thick grey smoke billowing. Another image from closer to the fire shows an area of gorse ablaze. Videos taken from the other side of the loch show the smoke from the fire, visible for miles around as it rises into the sky above the park.
Blaze brought under control
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire which was brought under control within two hours. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A fire was reported in an open area – two appliances attended.” The fire crews left the scene at 9.30pm after extinguishing the blaze.
