Firefighters in Wales have described a "tough" week as they shared dramatic images of wildfires still burning across the country. The crew at station 16 Hay-on-Wye, part of the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, thanked their loved ones and supporters through the challenging period.
Over 90 hours on operational incidents
In an update, the crew said: "It has been unprecedented times for the crew at Station 16, Hay-on-Wye along with our colleagues from Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service."
"This past week the crew have spent over 90 hours on operational incidents covering areas as far as Llanwrtyd Wells and Merthyr & Ebbw Vale."
"It has been tough, however we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received during this time," the crew added.
Support from businesses and families
They thanked "small local businesses that have kept us fuelled with food and drinks" and the Rapid Relief Team for catering support, saying it "made sure we didn't go hungry whilst out on incidents."
"Thank you to our amazing families and loved ones for their support who have had to see us leave at a moments notice and not know how long we will be gone for," they said.
Major incident and dry conditions
The crew is among firefighters from across Wales, joined by colleagues from English fire services and the army, responding to a major incident with 20 fires. The ground is tinderbox dry after prolonged heatwaves and months of little rain.
The crew asked everyone to "stay safe for now and abide to the recent UK Government Alert," adding: "Thank you all again, The Crew at Station 16, Hay-on-Wye."
