A 4-in-1 Handheld Cordless Vacuum sold on eBay has been urgently recalled after it was found to be supplied without the required manufacturer and importer identification details. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a recall notice, urging customers to stop using the item and seek a refund, repair or replacement.
Reason for the recall
The OPSS said: "The product was supplied without the required manufacturer and importer identification details. The product did not include the manufacturer’s postal address, nor the UK importer’s name, registered trade name or trademark, or postal address."
It added: "In addition, the CE marking displayed on the product was below the minimum prescribed size requirements. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016."
What customers should do
The OPSS stated: "The product has been recalled from end users by the eBay seller – Storm.Trading (JD Europe). Affected customers have been contacted directly by the supplier."
Customers who own the product are advised: "If you own this product, stop using it and contact the eBay seller for a refund, repair or replacement."
The vacuum is described as a cordless handheld cleaner marketed as a “four-in-one” product. It comes with a floor brush, crevice tool, brush tool, telescopic extension tube and washable HEPA filter.
Product details and other recalls
The recalled product is the 4-in-1 Handheld Cordless Vacuum, model GHA-585, barcode 50004300047679, eBay item number 226383807216, sold by eBay seller Storm.Trading (JD Europe).
eBay’s product safety policy states: "To keep buyers safe, we partner with global safety agencies to remove unsafe or non-compliant items from our marketplace. We don’t allow items that could harm buyers or pose health or safety risks. That includes items that are banned, recalled, or don't meet safety regulations."
Earlier this week, Sainsbury's published a recall notice for three handbags after a serious chemical risk was found. The three styles of TU Tote Shopper Bags were recalled because they contain excessive concentrations of phthalates.
The OPSS explained: "The products present a serious chemical risk because they contain excessive concentrations of phthalates. Phthalates may harm the health of children, potentially causing damage to the reproductive system. The products do not meet the requirements of the REACH Enforcement Regulations 2008."
Sainsbury's and Argos have recalled the products. The OPSS advised: "We recommend that you stop using the products immediately and return them to your nearest Sainsbury’s or Argos store for a full refund."
Sainsbury's said: "We are asking customers who have purchased any of these items to stop using them and return them to their local Sainsbury’s store for a full refund. For further details or if you have any questions, please visit our website Sainsburys.co.uk/help or contact our careline on 0800 028 8303."
It added: "Please share this recall notice with anyone who may have purchased, received or used one of these products. No other products have been affected by this issue. Sainsbury’s would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
