UK weather maps show the exact date temperatures will plummet to 1C as a sharp chill hits, with the Met Office issuing its snow verdict. The WXCharts map, using MetDesk data, shows that on October 20, some areas in the UK will drop to near-freezing conditions.
Coldest areas in Scotland and Northern England
The coolest areas are unsurprisingly in Scotland, with London expected to be one of the mildest areas in the UK. The map shows that at 6am in the morning parts of Scotland and Northern England will fall as low as 1C.
Other parts of Scotland could reach up to 7C as the day continues. In Northern England, parts of the map are also an icy blue as the morning will have a fresh feel.
Regional temperature breakdown
Cumbria and surrounding areas will fall as low as 2C at the start of the day. Elsewhere in the north the map shows that Yorkshire is expected to range between 3-5C.
In the south temperatures are expected to be hotter, with much of the Midlands forecast to hit 4C. Parts of Wales will also stay at 4C throughout the morning.
Heading further east the temperature increases slightly, with London at 7C. However in Suffolk and Norfolk the map shows a cool 4C.
Afternoon conditions and Met Office forecast
These temperatures are expected to remain chilly into the afternoon, as much of Northern England will stay at 1C and 2C by midday. At 12pm parts of East Anglia will also only reach 3C.
The Met Office does forecast showers on October 20, however no snow has currently been predicted. The long range forecast up until that date states: "It will likely be quite changeable through the middle of October, as a series of low pressure systems run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, but interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions."
Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and especially northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in sheltered southern and eastern parts, but even here it is likely to be wetter than during recent weeks.
