Snow is set to hit the UK in a matter of days, with a massive rain bomb also on its way, drenching nearly the entirety of the nation. Brits will most definitely want to dust off their rain coats and boots as the torrential rain will hit the nation in under two weeks time.
Almost three-quarters of England remains in drought following an exceptionally dry spring and summer as well as multiple heatwaves. The Environment Agency (EA) says around 120% of typical rainfall is needed between September and April for all areas to be considered out of drought.
Rain arrives October 22
WXCharts weather maps show the sweeping pattern will first hit at 6am on October 22. All six counties in Northern Ireland will awake to heavy rain. Armagh and Londonderry will see the worst of the rain with up to 4mm expected.
Devon and Cornwall will see the heaviest rain in the UK with a whopping 6mm expected. The entirety of Wales looks set to be covered by a massive wall of rain with southern areas bracing for the worst with 5.5mm of rain forecast.
For now, western and northern parts of England, along with large areas of Scotland, will remain largely dry, but this respite from the rain is not expected to last long.
Snow and plummeting temperatures
Temperatures will also plummet to a bone chilling low of -1C and 0C in Perth and Kinross and Angus in Scotland. The Scottish Highlands will see the mercury hover between a chilly 1C and 2C.
Fast forward six hours to 12pm and the band of rain will have moved to cover almost the entirety of the country with the UK barely visible on the weather map.
Large swathes of Scotland are forecast snow with 0.8mm expected to fall, however, it is unlikely this will settle as heavy rain is also forecast.
Heaviest rain in Scotland and England
Dumfries and Galloway is forecast to see the heaviest rain in Scotland with a maximum of 5mm forecast. In England, Cumbria will see the worst of the rain with 5mm likely.
Elsewhere, Lancashire and Derbyshire will see 4mm as will West Sussex. In Wales, the heavy band of rain will have moved to cover northern areas with a maximum of 5mm forecast.
However, heavy rain will still be lingering in the south, Swansea in particular is forecast to have 4mm of rain. The only areas to be spared will be the areas including and surrounding Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Wiltshire as well as Down and Antrim in Northern Ireland.
