Thursday will begin brightly with sunny spells through the morning, before showers sweep in later in the day, according to the Met Office. More rain is predicted on Friday, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Weekend outlook
Saturday and Sunday should be drier and warmer, albeit with the odd shower still possible. Looking further ahead, next week promises a mix of sunshine and cloud, with temperatures generally expected to remain mild.
Warmer spells ahead
The Met Office's long-range forecast predicts "warm spells" in the south in the second half of September, with "very warm" weather possible in the next couple of weeks. The Met Office has previously said the UK is on course for its hottest summer on record after five heatwaves, with temperatures of up to 38.1C recorded in London.
