Tenerife has been struck by four earthquakes, including a 3.6 magnitude tremor, with tourists reporting that furniture shook as the quakes hit waters surrounding the holiday hotspot.
Largest tremor recorded at depth
The largest seismic movement took place at 6.37pm, according to the National Geographic Institute, and was recorded at a depth of 34 kilometres. It was felt in the historic town of La Laguna.
Two other earthquakes were felt at similar depths of 35 and 36 kilometres, with magnitudes of 3.0 and 2.3. A fourth tremor was shallower, at 16 kilometres, with a magnitude of 2.8.

Drills announced after increased activity
The seismic activity comes after Tenerife's Island Council announced two emergency drills as activity around Mount Teide has recently been higher than usual.
