An evacuation order has been issued on the Greek island of Salamis after two wildfires erupted nearly simultaneously. The blazes broke out in the Peristeria area and in the Selinia area, with the latter heading towards the popular village of Kaki Vigla.
Evacuation Calls Issued
The Civil Protection has issued four calls to evacuate the Peristeria area. Authorities wrote on the 112Greece X account: "Fire in your area. If you are in the Peristeria and Aias club area of Salamina in the Attica region, evacuate via Peristerion Avenue towards Aianteio. Follow the instructions of the authorities."
Tourism and Location
Salamis is among the most popular Greek islands for tourism, partly due to its proximity to Athens. The major fires erupted on Sunday afternoon.
