Tens of thousands of festivalgoers at Reading, Leeds and other music festivals have been lashed with rain and faced wading through muddy fields as showers hammered Britain. Many donned plastic ponchos as a yellow thunderstorm warning remained in force.
Fans keep spirits high despite downpours
Fans at Reading, Leeds and other festivals were caught in the rain, with many pictured frolicking in the downpour and remaining in good spirits despite their outfits being drenched in mud. Those who had pre-planned made sure to pack both wellies and ponchos.
Met Office warning in place until 9pm
Festivalgoers will have to contend with heavy showers a little longer, with the Met Office's yellow thunderstorm warning in place until 9pm. The warning stretches from south-west England and parts of Wales across the Midlands to the east of England.
The forecaster said flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, trains could be delayed and car journeys could take longer. Some areas within the warning could see 15-25mm of rain in an hour, and 30mm in two to three hours, along with hail and lightning.
Eight areas were covered by Environment Agency flood alerts, meaning floods were possible. Cricket fans at Lord's in London were not as lucky, as play was halted due to the rain.
