People should make the most of the dry conditions across Merseyside today, as it's looking to be a wet weekend across the region. After weeks of scorching temperatures and blistering sunshine, this is the first weekend in a long time where cloud, wind and outbreaks of rain are forecast.
Milder temperatures have arrived in the north west following a hot start to the month. Weather warnings were in place at the beginning of July, but things have taken a sharp turn, with temperatures remaining in the low 20s throughout this week.
Friday July 24: Last Dry Day
Friday July 24 will be the final dry day before a weekend of scattered showers. The Met Office said: "Patches of low cloud and any fog will soon clear to leave a dry day across the region. Further cloud will feed in from the northwest during the day, though there will be some warm spells of sunshine. Maximum temperature 22 °C."
Saturday July 25: Rain Arrives
According to the Met Office weather map, patches of rain begin to sweep across the UK overnight tonight and into Saturday (July 25) morning. The rain appears to hit Merseyside on Saturday just before midday, before deep blue patches are visible on Merseyside at 12.45pm.
Thankfully, the wet weather moves away in the afternoon, with a chance of light showers later in the day. In its outlook for Saturday, the Met Office said: "Early sunshine will give way to thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain on Saturday morning, accompanied by fairly brisk winds. A breezy and showery afternoon will follow. Maximum temperature 21 °C."
Sunday July 26: Fresher with Showers
Sunday will be "fresher" with the chance of some showers. The UK forecaster said: "Sunday will be a fresher, still breezy day with sunshine and scattered showers. Staying more changeable than of late into early next week. Some sunshine, though rain at times too."
The Met Office said the upcoming wet weather is "much-needed" after a sweltering few months in the UK. Steve Willington, Met Office chief forecaster, said: “The high pressure has been a key feature of the UK’s weather forecast over the last few weeks, bringing above-average temperatures and extremely dry conditions for many. However, we will begin to see a modest change as a weak weather front pushes south across the UK on Saturday bringing some much-needed rain, albeit it light and mainly concentrated in the north and west. Behind the front a showery air mass will bring potentially heavy showers some of which may be thundery.”
