The Met Office has forecast another UK heatwave with temperatures potentially reaching 36C, but has also issued a "heavy rain" warning for parts of the country.
The national weather forecaster said heatwave conditions are likely to return to large parts of the UK next week, as temperatures climb through the weekend and further into the middle of next week.
Temperatures to peak midweek
The mercury is predicted to hit highs of between 27C and 34C over the coming days, before soaring to as high as 36C across parts of England on Thursday. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow heat alerts for seven UK regions spanning 84 hours. They came into force at 9am this morning and will run until 9pm next Wednesday (August 11).
However, the Met Office warned not all of the UK will enjoy the heat and glorious sunshine this weekend, with "heavy rain" forecast in some areas.
North-south split
The Met Office said: "This weekend will see a north-south split in the weather. Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to see spells of rain, which might be heavy at times. Further south, England and Wales will remain largely dry, sunny and increasingly warm."
Large parts of the UK are expected to bask in the latest heatwave to hit in 2026.
Forecast details
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Mike Silverstone said: "Temperatures will climb through the weekend and, more significantly, through much of next week. After a brief dip on Monday, high pressure will move across the UK before settling to the east, allowing a southerly flow to develop."
He added: "A fairly widespread heatwave is likely across large parts of England and Wales, with hot conditions developing in places. The heat is expected to peak for much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Wednesday, with up to 34C possible in parts of central and southern England and southeast Wales. East Anglia and south-east England, however, could see temperatures even higher on Thursday. Humidity levels are also expected to increase through the week, which may make conditions feel more uncomfortable, particularly overnight."
