The Met Office has warned that 25 areas of the UK could face power cuts today due to thunderstorms and heavy rain. Two yellow rain warnings have been issued, covering 20 areas in Scotland and five in Northern Ireland, with power outages listed as a potential risk in both warnings.

Scotland Warning Details

The yellow rain warning for Scotland is in effect from 2pm on Tuesday, June 30. The Met Office cautioned: "Some interruption to power supplies and other services possible." The affected areas include Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Edinburgh, Scottish Borders, West Lothian, Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire.

Northern Ireland Warning Details

For Northern Ireland, the warning runs from 12 midday until 6pm. The Met Office stated: "Some short term loss of power and other services is possible." The affected areas are County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Londonderry, and County Tyrone.

Travel Disruption and Heatwave Return

In addition to power cuts, the forecaster warned of flooding and travel disruption. Despite the current storms, the Met Office has predicted that the heatwave will return in England at the weekend, with temperatures possibly reaching 30°C in some areas.
